When you're writing a custom report in iSolved, the only thing you can't change after you do the initial options in adding a new report is the report type. It's important that you pick the right type of report for the data you want to end up with, or you could get most of the way through writing the report before you find out that the report type you picked wasn't right and have to start over.
The report type selected dictates the tables available for reporting, the tabs available for running reports, and whether or not a report can be scheduled. Here's a run-down of some basic information from the User's Guide that'll help you know which report type is right for you:
- Payroll Employee Summary Report: This type of report has a single row of data for each employee. Reports can be generated for an ‘As Of’ date or for a specific payroll run. This type of report is available in Report Writer, Scheduled Report Options, Report Archive, and Reports on Demand.
- Payroll Check Detail Report: This type of report has a single row of data for each employee. Reports can be generated for an ‘As Of’ date or for a specific payroll run. Check accumulation fields display the accumulations as they were on the ‘As Of’ date or as they were for the specific payroll run. This type of report is available in Report Writer, Scheduled Report Options, Report Archive, and Reports on Demand.
- Date Range Report: This type of report has multiple rows of data for each employee (one row of data per payroll run, within the date range, for each employee). Reports can be generated for a date range. This type of report is available in Report Writer and Date Range Reports.
- Date Range Employee Summary Report: This type of report has one line of data for each employee and can be used to report total earnings, deductions, memo calculations, and/or taxes over a date range. This type of report is available in Report Writer, Date Range Reports, and Client Reports.
- HR Reports: This type of report is designed to pull in data from HR tables where there can be multiple rows per employee. Reports can be generated for an ‘As of Date’ from the Preview by Company tab. Reports are also available in Date Range Reports. Following is a list of the new report types and the date that is used for the ‘As of Date’:
- Awards: Date Awarded
- Certifications: Effective Date
- Company Assets: Date Assigned
- Disciplinary Actions: Offense Date
- Education: Completion Date
- OSHA: Incident Date
- Prior Employment: Start Date
- Skills: Date Attained
- Training: Start Date
NOTES:
If you choose to use a Date Range Report or Date Range Employee Summary Report, you must include a column that has numeric data pulled from payroll run history (Check Accumulations, Earnings Accumulations, Deduction Accumulations, and/or Memo Accumulations). You can hide the column on the Edit Columns tab if you'd like, but it has to be in the report for the report to run properly.
Date Range Reports and Date Range Employee Summary Reports can report across all pay groups and/or legal companies within a Client, but Payroll Employee Summary Reports cannot.
